This is getting good. The bulk of Syrian oil lies
to the SE of Deir Ezzor. See map below.

Deir Ezzor lies along the Euphrates and the US and Russian
backed forces are only 2km apart. With the Syrian/Iranian
forces now entering the southern part of the city
of Deir Error, with the US backed Kurds now at the
Northern part of the city.

The oil fields lie on the east side of the Euphrates
and the Russians brought in pontoons for the Syrian forces
coming from the west to use to cross the river so they
can head south towards the oil fields before the US backed
Kurds can get there.

But the Kurds opened up the dam and flooded the river
slowing the Syrian attempt to get across the river
in numbers. And now it's reported US troops have
been airdropped into the area just to the east of
the city and river to block the Syrian advance.

The Kurds reported a couple days ago that Russian attacked
their troops, and Russia now claims Kurdish/US forces
have attacked Syrian troops.

It appears the US/Kurdish forces have the advantage
and should take the oil fields before Syria/Iran
can get troops in numbers to the area.

But the next few days or weeks should decide who
controls the bulk of Syria's oil.

Syria/Iran or the US backed Kurds?

And it should be noted if Syria/Iran controls
this area to the SE of Deir Ezzor up to the
Iraqi border, that gives Iran their coveted
Lebanon/Syria/Iran unfettered access and
strategic control of the entire theatre.

The US is strongly opposed to allowing Iran
to have this victory, and want the Kurds
to have the Syian oil and control of the
border crossing to Iraq.
